BTFA executive produces projects led by New York City-based Black trans femme artists and works with those artists on distribution and community engagement around their productions. 

Productions Eligibility and Application

  1. BTFA provides funding, pre-production and production assistance, budget advice, and marketing assistance for all BTFA productions. BTFA Productions projects will have access to BTFA’s artist and resource directory to help fulfill project needs. 

  2. BTFA Productions funding is for projects based in New York City. Artists cannot apply for BTFA Productions funding for general support. Organizations are not eligible for BTFA Productions funding. 

  3. BTFA Productions funding is only available to projects led by Black trans femmes. Projects with Black trans femmes in supporting or assisting roles only are not eligible. 

  4. Individual artists are only eligible for up to $5,000 in BTFA production funds per year. Artists can only receive BTFA productions funding twice a year, once for Fall/Winter and once for Spring/Summer. Recipients cannot apply for new funding unless their project from the previous term is complete. 

  5. Projects with multiple Black trans femmes in leadership can apply for up to $25,000 funds for year, based on the number of Black trans femmes in leadership. (Ex. $10,000 for 2 Black trans femmes in leadership, $15,000 for 3 Black trans femmes in leadership, $20,000 for 4 Black trans femmes in leadership, etc.)

  6. You can not apply for funding for the same project more than once. 

  7. Projects must be able to be shared publicly on BTFA’s website and social media. 

  8. BTFA must be credited as an Executive Producer on the project.
