BTFA Collective Job Openings

BTFA is a community-based arts organization that builds community and mobilizes resources to support Black trans femme artists. We organize programming that centers and highlights Black trans femme artists, executive produce projects led by Black trans femme artists, and provide direct support to Black trans artists. Our mission is to create spaces for the production and preservation of Black trans art and culture by building community with Black trans femme artists and providing them with the resources and support necessary to thrive. We envision a world in which Black trans femmes are able to live and create without limitations. 

  • About the Position

    BTFA is seeking an experienced, proactive, and effective Grant Writer to support BTFA’s growing Programs and Productions departments, as well as general operations. This position will report directly to the Executive Director (ED) and work closely with the ED to align their fundraising strategy with the organization's overall goals and ethics. The ideal candidate will play an active role in strategizing and implementing short and long-term fundraising goals for the organization. The candidate will have a passion for inclusivity in the arts and support BTFA’s mission to make the arts accessible to the Black trans community. BTFA seeks someone with extensive grant writing experience and knowledge of the Black trans community, including their struggles, triumphs, and contributions to the arts.

    Responsibilities:

    Prospect potential new funding streams with grants from foundations, corporations, major donors, and governmental agencies on the local, state, and federal levels

    Develop, draft, and edit letters of interest, funding proposals, development materials, and reports for our specific program areas as well as for general organizational support

    Proofread/copy edit grant proposal/report narratives and other fundraising documents and materials

    Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and redesigning processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate

    Prepare, draft and edit grant reports and presentations to funders, and work with administrative and program staff to gather needed financial and programmatic information

    Assist with stewardship of institutional donors, including drafting donor communications, such as email updates, impact reports, and annual reports;

    Draft speaking points for donor meetings and speaking engagements;

    Deepen relationships and communications with current and prospective program officers and funders

    Join program/development team meetings as needed to stay abreast of program updates and other information relevant to fundraising efforts

    Maintain and improve detailed grants management database, records, and systems

    Provide quarterly development reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree preferred

    At least 3 years of grant writing experience

    Knowledge of the funding landscape for the arts preferred

    Exceptional writing, editing, and copy-editing skills

    Excellent communication skills

    Ability to synthesize complex concepts and ideas in succinct and accessible language

    Proficiency in research and data management

    Ability to multi-task and adhere to multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

    Self-motivated, organized and highly detail-oriented

    Location: Remote

    Employment Type: Part-Time, 20 hrs/wk

    Wage: $31.25/hr
